I’m an amateur, but a serious one. I took private lessons from childhood through high school, and am mostly self-taught since then, but have resumed lessons since 2012. I particularly like the Romantic period, though I play everything from baroque through modern, and also can play by ear, from chord charts, fake books, etc. (which I use for Broadway, pop, and worship music). I like the challenge of “big” works, such as Chopin Piano Sonata #3, Fantasy in F minor, or Polonaise in Ab; Schumann Fantasy in C, Symphonic Etudes, and Carnaval; Liszt Sonata in B, Reminiscences of Norma, Alkan Grande Sonata; Brahms Variations on a Theme of Handel; Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue; Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin; and many Beethoven Sonatas including Waldstein, Pathetique, Moonlight, Les Adieux, and A major op. 101. In early 2022, I started working on Schumann Concerto, since I hadn’t played a concerto since my high school years.
